Thoroughly blend butter and flour. Add the sugar and salt. Mix in the currants. Add just enough milk and water combined to make firm dough.
Roll out dough ½ inch thick and cut into rounds with 2-inch biscuit cutter or shape a 1/2 inch thick round and section off as you would scones or shortbread. Brush over with milk, dust with sugar (optional) and bake in a hot oven (400 degrees) until lightly golden.
Can also be cooked on a hot griddle the same as English muffins, just leave off the sugar dusting.
